Acura Key Fob Programming San Jose — MDX, RDX, TLX & Integra
Acura Smart Entry — Honda Platform, Acura-Specific Implementation
Acura uses Honda's underlying transponder and key platform but implements its own Smart Entry system on top of it. Understanding the distinction matters:
- Honda and Acura share the base transponder architecture — the same OBD-II programming protocol family applies to both brands.
- Acura uses Acura-specific fob hardware — the part numbers, key blade profiles (on some models), and Smart Entry firmware parameters are Acura-specific, not interchangeable with Honda fobs.
- Smart Entry is Acura's passive entry system — the vehicle passively detects the key fob's presence (within ~3 feet of the door handles) and unlocks automatically. Push Button Start is linked to the same fob presence detection.
We carry Acura-specific key blanks and fob hardware in our mobile unit, and our OBD-II equipment is configured for Acura's specific parameters.

The Tech Professional Angle — Why Acura Owners Call Us
Acura's customer base in the South Bay skews heavily toward tech workers, engineers, and professionals who are time-sensitive and value clarity. We hear the same things from Acura owners:
- "I don't have time to wait at a dealership for a key appointment."
- "I know it's just a fob battery — but if I swap it and it doesn't work, I need someone who can diagnose this fast."
- "Can you come to my office in Sunnyvale? I can't leave the building until 5."
Yes to all three. We come to offices, parking structures, garages, and homes. Our response time to Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, and San Jose is typically 30–45 minutes. We call ahead with an ETA when we're dispatched.
Acura vs. Honda Key — When They're Not Interchangeable
A question we get often: "Can you use a Honda Accord key on my TLX?" The answer is no — even though both are on the same Honda platform. The blade profile may differ (HON66 vs. HON70 depending on model and year), and the fob firmware is programmed to Acura-specific Smart Entry parameters. Using a Honda fob on an Acura vehicle would require not just physical compatibility but also correct Acura firmware — effectively making it an Acura key anyway.
We don't substitute Honda hardware for Acura vehicles. We use the correct Acura-specific blanks and fobs for every job.
