GMC Key Fob Programming San Jose — Sierra, Yukon, Terrain & Fleet Trucks
GM Platform — How GMC Key Systems Work
GMC and Chevrolet share the same General Motors platform, which means the same BCM-based transponder and smart key architecture underlies every Sierra, Yukon, Terrain, and Acadia. However, the specific fobs, blanks, and programming parameters differ by model, trim, and year — you can't simply use a Chevrolet Silverado key on a GMC Sierra without proper re-pairing.
Here's how the GM anti-theft and key systems break down for GMC vehicles:
- PK3 Transponder (2003–2009 Sierra/Yukon): The chip in the key blade communicates with the BCM at engine start. An unprogrammed key turns the ignition but the BCM cuts fuel. We cut and program these blades on-site.
- PK3+ Rolling Code (2007–2013): Enhanced system used on Acadia (first gen), Terrain (first gen), and Sierra 2007–2013. Requires OBD-II access to write the new key's code to the BCM.
- BCM Smart Key / PEPS (2014–present): Proximity push-to-start keys on Sierra Denali, Yukon Denali, and newer Terrain/Acadia models. Paired directly to the BCM via GM TECH2-equivalent interface. Full push-to-start operation with proximity unlock.
GMC Models We Service Most in the South Bay
- Sierra 1500: The most common GMC in the region. Contractors, landscapers, and weekend truck owners call us for Sierra keys daily. All cab and bed configurations covered.
- Sierra 2500HD / 3500HD: Heavy-duty work trucks. We service these at jobsites, fleet yards, and commercial facilities across Santa Clara County.
- Yukon / Yukon XL: Full-size family SUVs used in Los Gatos, Saratoga, and Almaden. Push-to-start smart key programming from $175.
- Terrain: Compact SUV with high sales volume in Silicon Valley. PK3+ or smart key depending on year. Fob reprogramming and transponder duplication both available.
- Acadia: Three-row SUV, popular with families in Willow Glen and East San Jose. 2017+ models use smart key PEPS; earlier models use PK3+.
- Canyon: Mid-size truck. Same key system as the Colorado. We carry Canyon-specific blanks.
- Envoy / Envision: Older and current crossover models covered under our GM-wide programming capability.
Fleet and Work Truck Service — We Come to the Yard
GMC's Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD are among the most common fleet vehicles in Santa Clara County — used by HVAC contractors, plumbers, general contractors, landscapers, and county maintenance crews. A locked or dead-key fleet vehicle at a yard or jobsite can ripple into hours of lost labor.
We have experience working with fleet operators who need multiple vehicles handled efficiently. For fleet calls:
- Have VINs ready for each vehicle if possible
- Fleet registration documents are accepted in lieu of personal title
- We can often handle 2–3 vehicles per visit with adequate advance notice
- Typical response to San Jose / Santa Clara industrial areas: 30–45 minutes
For large fleet needs, call us directly to schedule a dedicated service window rather than using emergency response timing.
Sierra Without a Spare Key — What to Do
Losing the only key to a Sierra is a common enough problem — especially on heavily-used work trucks where keys get misplaced in toolboxes or left in trucks. Without a spare, you need an emergency lockout first, then a fresh key programmed from VIN using OBD-II access.
We carry the cutting equipment and programming tools to handle this in one visit. The full process — lockout, cut, and program — typically takes 45–60 minutes on-site. Read our guide: Can a Locksmith Make a Car Key Without the Original?
What to Prepare Before You Call
- Vehicle registration or title in your name (or fleet documentation)
- Government-issued ID matching the registration
- VIN number (dashboard or door jamb)
- Your exact location — we dispatch to you
- Any working keys you still have (reduces programming time)
GMC Dealer vs. Mobile Locksmith
Stevens Creek GMC: Sierra smart key fob = $200–$300 + $150–$200 programming + potential tow = $350–$500.
Cabrera's Key Fob: Sierra fob programming starting from $120 (flip/transponder) or $175 (smart key/push-to-start). On-site, same day.
